I wanted to make sure you know about the Curtain Club. The new season begins this week!
The Curtain Club started in 1954 in people’s basements. It moved to its current location at Elgin Mills and Newkirk in 1972. If you haven’t been there for a while it has had a recent renovation. It is now accessible and air conditioned, and there’s a new lobby!
This year the plays are recognizing Canada’s 150th anniversary. All of the plays are written by Canadian playwrights. Click here for the playbill.
The Curtain Club is community theatre. 5 shows are produced each year. There are just over 150 seats with 12 shows each (plus a charity night and a preview night). That’s over 2000 tickets per show!
About 1000 subscriptions have been sold. The Friday and Saturday nights are almost always sold out!
But the Curtain Club is really community theatre for those who wish to express their creative talents. Of course, there are the actors on stage, but there’s also those who design and make the sets, the lighting crew, costume designers, director, stage managers, and probably a few more! They have an opportunity to use their talents.
Consider being part of this organization. Membership is only $10 and you get a lot! Click here for more info.
Consider buying tickets. It is probable that you don’t know the productions but that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy the shows. It is a lot less expensive and a lot less hassle than going downtown. Individual shows $22 or $27, subscriptions (5 shows) - $70 to $85. The home page of their web site have the links www.thecurtainclub.org
Enjoy what our Town has to offer.
Hope to see you at the Curtain Club! My subscription is for the opening night.
